Andrea Bocelli celebrates birthday as global crossover tenor

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli celebrates his birthday on September 22. Born in the Tuscan village of Lajatico, Bocelli rose to international prominence after winning the newcomers category at the Sanremo Music Festival in 1994.

Bocelli is recognized for bridging the gap between classical opera and popular music. His crossover success was significantly driven by the album ‘Romanza’ and the hit duet ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ with Sarah Brightman. Before his musical career took flight, he studied law at the University of Pisa and practiced briefly as a state attorney.
