Andrea Bocelli concerts face boycott calls in Indonesia and Jordan

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli is facing significant backlash and boycott calls regarding planned performances in Indonesia and Jordan due to his perceived support for Israel.

In Indonesia, the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the DPR, Syahrul Aidi Ma’azat, has urged the government to carefully review the planned concert. Ma’azat emphasized that the government must consider humanitarian sensitivities toward Palestine, noting that Indonesia's historical and constitutional commitment to Palestinian independence should guide policy decisions regarding the event.

Similarly, in Jordan, the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and pro-Palestinian activists are calling for a boycott of a concert scheduled to take place in Petra on November 27, 2026. Activists argue that Petra, an iconic Arab site, should not serve as a stage for an artist with a track record of supporting Israel. The Et’harrak anti-normalization group has also demanded that organizers revoke Bocelli's invitation, citing concerns over cultural normalization amidst ongoing regional tensions.
