Andrea Bocelli named global face of Italy's Cammino di Francesco tourism network
The Italian Ministry of Tourism launched the "Cammino di Francesco – Il Cammino della Luce" project, a spiritual, cultural and sustainable tourism initiative that links dozens of pilgrimage routes inspired by St. Francis. A promotional video featuring the voice of Andrea Bocelli was released, making the celebrated singer the official testimonial of the programme.
Minister of Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi announced a total investment of €40 million for the network, which spans roughly 33 000 km of routes worldwide. The Italian segment, known as the Cammino di Francesco, covers 1 546 km across six regions – Abruzzo, Emilia‑Romagna, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria. Travellers can obtain the "Testimonium Viae Francisci" certificate by presenting a stamped credential, completing at least 100 km on foot or 200 km by bike, and visiting St. Francis’s tomb in Assisi. Mazzi also suggested introducing recognitions for shorter pilgrimages.
Bocelli previously collaborated on an audiovisual project about the Via Francigena, underscoring his long‑standing involvement with Italy’s historic routes.
