Andrea Devicenzi sets 10 world ultracycling records

Paralympic athlete Andrea Devicenzi has set ten new world records in ultracycling during a 24-hour endurance ride. The 50-year-old athlete, who has been left-leg amputated since age 17, completed a total distance of 623.820 km at the Lainate track between September 12 and 13.

The feat, certified by the World Ultracycling Association (WUCA), involved breaking previous indoor records set in Palma de Mallorca. Devicenzi achieved milestones across various intervals, including 100 km, 200 km, 300 km, 500 km, and the final 24-hour mark.

Performing on an outdoor track presented environmental challenges such as wind and temperature fluctuations, which typically impose a 20% performance disadvantage compared to indoor velodromes. Experts noted that when accounting for these environmental deficits, Devicenzi’s effective performance improvement was nearly 30%. The achievement was supported by specialized equipment, including the X24 Challenge bicycle designed by TOOT Engineering.
