Andrea Iannone marks 10th anniversary of historic Ducati MotoGP win

The tenth anniversary of Andrea Iannone’s historic MotoGP victory at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix marks a pivotal moment in Ducati’s racing history. Iannone described the win as the beginning of a new era for the manufacturer, noting that the emotional victory broke a five-year losing streak for the factory team.

Prior to the race, Ducati had struggled with consistency, sitting ninth and tenth in the championship standings. While the Desmosedici was not yet the dominant machine it would later become, its superior straight-line performance, acceleration, and hard braking proved ideal for the Red Bull Ring.

Technical director Gigi Dall’Igna noted that testing at the circuit a month prior helped the team realize they could achieve a top result. After securing pole position, Iannone managed the race to secure the win, an event team manager Davide Tardozzi characterized as the moment Ducati Corse began to smile again.
