Philologist Andrea Mazzucchi is set to become the new rector of the University of Naples Federico II, officially taking office on September 1. Elected on July 3, Mazzucchi will lead the institution for the 2026–2032 term.

Mazzucchi succeeds Matteo Lorito, who concluded his mandate early on July 9 to join the governing board of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR). During the interim period leading up to the new appointment, Professor Angela Zampella served as the acting director.

Mazzucchi, a scholar of Italian literary philology, aims to increase the university's national and international competitiveness. His stated priorities include fostering a more cohesive and inclusive academic community and placing students at the center of institutional action.
