British Columbia municipal elections see various regional developments
Various municipal election activities are unfolding across British Columbia. In Kelowna, the RCMP has warned of potential criminal charges for theft or mischief following reports of vandalized and stolen campaign signs belonging to multiple candidates.
In North Cowichan, two-term Mayor Rob Douglas has announced his bid for a third term, citing the need for steady leadership to address economic challenges following the Crofton mill closure, as well as housing and infrastructure pressures. Meanwhile, the Victoria Firefighters union has announced it will endorse city council candidates for the first time in its 168-year history, focusing on public safety and emergency response issues.
Other regional updates include the Port Alberni city council approving a new remuneration and expense bylaw effective in 2027, and the Kamloops-Thompson school board race taking shape as candidates prepare for the filing deadline. In the Comox Valley, Norm McPhail has filed to run for Director of Electoral Area C, emphasizing collaborative governance.
