Andrea Morris sentenced for stealing elderly man's wallet

Andrea Morris, 32, has been sentenced after admitting to stealing the wallet of an elderly man in Armidale. The victim, estimated to be between 87 and 88 years old, was approached by Morris near an ATM before she snatched his wallet and fled.

Following the theft, Morris engaged in a two-day spending spree totaling more than $950. She completed 22 fraudulent transactions using the victim's bank card, purchasing items including food, toys, alcohol, and cigarettes from various grocery stores, service stations, and liquor outlets.

Morris faced 23 charges, including theft from a person and 22 counts of financial fraud. Her legal representative noted that while the offenses crossed the threshold for imprisonment, her early guilty plea and issues with drug and alcohol dependency should be considered.
