Andrea Radrizzani discusses saving Sampdoria and Serie A media rights
Andrea Radrizzani has discussed his tenure at Sampdoria and his perspectives on the football media landscape. Reflecting on the club's recent history, Radrizzani stated that he and Matteo Manfredi technically saved Sampdoria from bankruptcy. He noted that while he personally invested 6 million euros, the process was a struggle against time due to complex debt structures and difficult negotiations with the previous ownership.
Radrizzani revealed that his intention was to bring in additional partners, such as Qatar Sports Investments, to strengthen the club. He credited Manfredi with the essential bureaucratic and organizational work required to reach agreements and stabilize the institution.
Regarding the business of football, Radrizzani, who is also a minority shareholder in DAZN, commented on the Serie A television rights market. He observed that the European market lacks the intense competitiveness seen in the United States, noting that high costs for rights have previously harmed clubs. He suggested that the Lega Serie A must remain realistic about market realities to avoid the failures seen in other European leagues, such as the Mediapro situation in France.
