Andrea Sempio refuses psychiatric meeting in Garlasco murder case

Andrea Sempio, the sole suspect in the investigation into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco, has refused to meet with psychiatrist Roberto Catanesi. Catanesi was appointed by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office to conduct a personality assessment to evaluate Sempio’s mental capacity and potential social dangerousness.

Sempio’s legal team, including Liborio Cataliotti and Angela Taccia, communicated the refusal, stating that a psychiatric investigation is only relevant if specific pathologies are suspected. They argued that any formal expert assessment should be ordered by a judge within a contradictory process involving both the prosecution and the defense. Consequently, Catanesi must complete his report using only existing materials, such as Sempio’s writings and recorded soliloquies from intercepted communications.

The investigation continues with other technical assessments, including forensic analysis of a shoe print found at the crime scene and DNA evidence found under the victim's fingernails. The Prosecutor's Office aims to complete these investigative supplements by September 28.
