Garlasco murder case: Andrea Sempio's mother released after suicide‑attempt hospitalization

Italian prosecutors continue investigating the 2007 killing of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco. Andrea Sempio, long‑suspected in the murder, remains under scrutiny as television programmes revisit his alleged alibi. A 2017 intercepted car conversation captured Sempio saying, “Sono alcolista adesso?” while describing a visit to a bar that he earlier denied.

At the same time, Daniela Ferrari, Sempio’s 66‑year‑old mother, was hospitalized on 17 June after an overdose of tranquilising medication that was ruled a suicide attempt. She spent about a month in Vigevano’s hospital, first in intensive care and then in psychiatry, before being discharged to her home in Garlasco in late July. Her lawyers confirmed the circumstances and noted she had received hostile messages on social media following the renewed media focus on the case.

The renewed media attention also highlighted new theories, such as a disputed bottle of water and a parking‑meter receipt that could alter the timeline of Sempio’s movements on the morning of the murder.
