Andrea Wechsler Elected President of Germany’s Europa‑Union
The Europa‑Union Germany (EUD), a cross‑party citizens’ association, chose Prof. Dr. Andrea Wechsler as its new president at the 68th federal congress in Chemnitz. The former president, Rainer Wieland, did not stand for reelection. The new presidium includes vice‑presidents Gaby Bischoff, Chantal Kopf, Patrick Sensburg and several other members from across the Länder, while Christian Moos remains general secretary and Alexander Kulitz was appointed treasurer.
Wechsler emphasized that Europe must grow from the grassroots and pledged to safeguard the Schengen area, oppose internal border checks, and push for a strong, future‑proof EU budget and greater EU coverage on public broadcasters during her term.
