Andreas Almgren favored for Bragdguldet following World Championship success
TV personality Tommy Åström has commented on the debate surrounding the Bragdguldet award, suggesting that runner Andreas Almgren’s recent achievements make him the clear choice over winter sports athletes.
Following the Swedish national ski team’s dominance during the Winter Olympics, many expected the award to go to skiers. However, Almgren’s recent performance—including winning European gold in the 10,000 meters and securing a World Championship gold in the half marathon with one of the fastest times ever recorded—has shifted the conversation.
Speaking on the podcast ‘Sporthuset’, Åström argued that the level of global competition in running is incomparable to winter sports. He noted that while snow and ice sports are beloved in Sweden, the analytical competitive depth of athletics, dominated globally by African runners, places Almgren’s feat in a different category of achievement.
