Agnes Ngetich and Andreas Almgren win World Road Running titles
The World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen concluded with historic performances in the half marathon. Kenyan runner Agnes Ngetich set a new women-only world record with a time of 1:05:15, narrowly beating her compatriot Veronica Loleo (1:06:05) and Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru (1:06:08).
In the men’s race, Sweden’s Andreas Almgren secured the gold medal and established a new European record with a time of 58:06. Almgren’s victory ended over three decades of African dominance in the event. He defeated Kenya’s Nicholas Kipkorir (58:11) and Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei (58:26) in a close finish.
Other notable results included Marta García setting a Spanish record in the 5km event, finishing sixth, and Filip Jančík representing Slovakia in the 5km race, where he finished 50th.
