Andreas Gabalier reflects on his musical upbringing

Singer Andreas Gabalier recently shared reflections on his upbringing during an appearance on Monika Gruber’s podcast, “Die Gruaberin”. He expressed gratitude for the strict cultural education provided by his mother, Huberta.

Despite a preference for sports like football and ice hockey, Gabalier noted that his mother insisted each of her children learn a musical instrument. He began piano lessons at age six and attended regular performances at the opera, theater, and the Graz Children and Youth Theater “Next Liberty”.

Reflecting on his teenage years, Gabalier described himself as a “wild teenager” who enjoyed celebrating with his three siblings in their family home’s soundproof air-raid shelter.
