Andreas Giebel returns to ‘Watzmann ermittelt’ after foot amputation
Actor Andreas Giebel has returned to the set of the ARD crime series ‘Watzmann ermittelt’ following a major health setback. Giebel, who plays lead investigator Benedikt Beissl, recently underwent a right foot amputation due to severe complications from an open wound. Despite the procedure, the 68-year-old remains a core member of the main cast for the upcoming eighth season.
Filming for the new season has been underway in Berchtesgaden and the surrounding Watzmann region since mid-June. The eighth season will feature twelve new episodes and introduces new characters to the investigative team, including Dr. Kira Cortesi, played by Aglaia Szyszkowitz, and Lukas Huber, played by Arne Kübler.
In separate German television news, Stefan Mross announced he will host his final episode of ‘Immer wieder sonntags’ on September 13, 2026, due to budget cuts. Mross expressed interest in pursuing acting roles, specifically mentioning a desire to appear in the ZDF series ‘Der Bergdoktor’.
Additionally, the ARD is expanding the reach of its reality game show ‘Werwölfe – Das Spiel von List und Täuschung’. The second season is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, in the ARD Mediathek, with select episodes also being broadcast during prime-time slots on the linear channel.
