Andreas Hoppe, ‘Tatort’ star, dies at 66

German actor Andreas Hoppe has died unexpectedly at the age of 66. His management confirmed the news, noting that he passed away on August 17. Hoppe was widely recognized for his long-running role as Detective Mario Kopper in the popular crime series ‘Tatort’, appearing in 57 episodes alongside Ulrike Folkerts between 1996 and 2018.

Colleagues and friends have expressed deep grief. Ulrike Folkerts, his longtime co-star and friend since their acting school days in Hannover, described him as a ‘special type’ and noted their profound connection. Actress Katy Karrenbauer also shared her condolences, remembering their early work together in the series ‘Notaufnahme’.

Beyond his television success, Hoppe was active in theater in Berlin and Bielefeld and later became involved in topics regarding regional nutrition and animal welfare, even authoring a cookbook. The SWR expressed dismay at the loss of a ‘great actor and artist’ who significantly shaped the Ludwigshafen-based ‘Tatort’ series.
