Andreas Pereira acquitted by STJD following dismissal against Athletico-PR
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has acquitted Palmeiras midfielder Andreas Pereira regarding his dismissal during a match against Athletico-PR in the 31st round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Pereira was originally judged under Article 250 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice for unfair or hostile conduct, which carries a potential suspension of one to three matches.
The incident occurred when Pereira kicked an extra ball onto the pitch toward player Luiz Gustavo while the match was in progress, resulting in a second yellow card. The disciplinary commission determined that the on-field penalty was sufficient, noting a lack of gravity in the action and Pereira's lack of prior recidivism. Consequently, he will only serve the suspension resulting from the initial red card.
Separately, Palmeiras has been fined R$ 1,000 for a one-minute delay in the start of the match against Athletico-PR, a violation of Article 206 of the sports code.
