Andreas Portmann appointed head of Luzern Security and Traffic Police

Andreas Portmann has been appointed as the new head of the Security and Traffic Police for the Luzern Police, effective April 1, 2027. The 47-year-old will lead a department of approximately 500 employees.

Port Portmann succeeds Pius Ludin, who is retiring after more than 40 years of service, including 11 years leading the department. Portmann currently leads the Civil Protection department within the Canton of Lucerne's military, civil protection, and corrections office. He previously served in the Luzern Police management as the head of planning and operations.

With roughly 20 years of police experience, Portmann has managed complex security situations, including serving as chief of staff during the peace conference for Ukraine at Bürgenstock. Justice and Security Director Ylfete Fanaj noted that his extensive leadership experience and existing connections with local municipalities will be highly valuable for the department's ongoing development.
