Andreessen Horowitz expands growth fund to $8.5B and launches $1.1B AI hardware fund

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has significantly expanded its investment capacity, announcing two major fund developments focused on the artificial intelligence sector. The firm expanded its fifth growth fund by $1.75 billion, bringing its total to $8.5 billion. This fund is designed to support late-stage startups as they scale products and expand into new markets.

In tandem, the firm closed the $1.1 billion Machine Age Fund. This specialized vehicle targets the physical layer of the AI stack, specifically focusing on AI hardware and infrastructure. Key investment areas include semiconductors, memory, networking, storage, data centers, and robotics.

The expansion reflects a strategic pivot toward the hardware requirements of the AI era, as companies reach growth stages more rapidly and require higher levels of capital. The firm currently manages approximately $90 billion in assets.
