Andrei Zviaguintsev’s Minotaure selected to represent France at the Oscars

Andrei Zviaguintsev’s latest film, ‘Minotaure’, has been selected to represent France in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. A French co-production, the film is an adaptation of Claude Chabrol’s 1969 drama ‘La Femme infidèle’.

Set in Russia in 2022, the story follows a prosperous businessman named Gleb whose life unravels amidst the invasion of Ukraine and his wife’s infidelity. The film serves as a contemporary tragedy, critiquing the Russian ruling class and the moral decay within the country. Zviaguintsev, who has resided in France since 2022 due to his opposition to the Russian government, uses the narrative to explore how institutional corruption and the systematic use of euphemisms regarding the war impact individual ethics.
