Andrej Babiš claims judicial ‘mafia’ exists during rally

During a pre-election rally in Havířov, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš claimed the existence of a ‘mafia that closes you up on order’ and accused judges of making decisions without evidence. Babiš used these remarks to explain his shift in stance regarding parliamentary immunity, which he previously criticized but now defends in light of his own legal challenges.

In response, the Judges' Union (Soudcovská unie) has called on Babiš to provide evidence for his claims or refrain from making such statements. The Union stated that such unsubstantiated accusations undermine public trust in the independent judiciary, which serves as a pillar of a democratic legal state.

Babiš countered the Union's demand by suggesting that if they want proof, they should study the case files of the ‘Čapí hnízdo’ investigation. He alleged that the High Court's ruling in that case was made without evidence and contradicted the findings of the court of first instance.
