Andrej Babiš faces Senate election losses and migration policy criticism
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš faced significant political setbacks following Senate elections, where pro-Western opposition parties maintained control. The centrist ANO movement, led by Babiš, failed to win any of the contested seats in the recent vote to fill one-third of the 81-member Senate. Babiš described the election results as “catastrophic” for his movement.
Separately, during an EU summit in Brussels, Babiš criticized the migration policies of Western European nations, including Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands. He characterized their approaches as too permissive and warned that the Czech Republic might eventually need to defend its borders against migrants coming from Western Europe. He also called for stricter measures against smugglers and the organizations that facilitate migration.
