Andrej Matvoz named Gibanje Svoboda candidate for Maribor mayor

Gibanje Svoboda has announced Andrej Matvoz as its candidate for mayor of Maribor in the upcoming local elections. Matvoz, a lawyer and current director of the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for the Protection of Competition, is a Maribor native who intends to apply his professional expertise to municipal governance.

His campaign focuses on three primary pillars: transparent and economical management of the municipality and its companies, more balanced development across all city districts and local communities, and improved accessibility of the city alongside more efficient public services. Matvoz emphasized the need for digital transformation and more user-friendly administrative processes.

Davorka Pregl, the head of the Gibanje Svoboda council group in Maribor and election campaign manager, stated that the party sought a candidate with deep local roots and the professional expertise required to manage Slovenia’s second-largest municipality.
