Andrej Plenković addresses energy inflation and Mediterranean security

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed regional and economic challenges at the 52nd Cernobbio Forum in Italy, highlighting the impact of Middle East instability on energy prices and inflation.

In Croatia, inflation rose to 4.1% in August, driven largely by a 17.4% increase in energy costs. In response, Plenković announced that the government will present an autumn package of measures designed to support families and businesses against the rising cost of living and energy volatility.

During the forum, Plenković also discussed EU enlargement, emphasizing a merit-based approach, and the necessity of diversifying energy sources. He noted that Croatia has become a transit hub for gas and oil to Central Europe through investments in LNG terminals and energy infrastructure. Additionally, he addressed Mediterranean migration issues and the demographic challenges facing the European Union.
