Andrej Štremfelj injured in Triglav north‑wall climbing accident

On Thursday afternoon a rock break on the long German route of Triglav’s north wall injured 69‑year‑old Slovenian alpinist Andrej Štremfelj and his 42‑year‑old climbing partner. The Slovenian Mountain Rescue Service dispatched teams eight times, and a helicopter from Brnik air‑lifted the pair to the University Clinical Centre in Ljubljana.

Štremfelj’s wife, Marija Štremfelj, confirmed that his injuries are not life‑threatening, though he remains under hospital care. Štremfelj is a celebrated figure in Slovene mountaineering, known for historic ascents such as Everest in 1979 and for being the first Slovene to summit several eight‑thousand‑meter peaks.
