Andrej Volkasin film to premiere at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

The Macedonian feature film “Sweetness of Bitter Things” (Sladosta na gorchlivite neshta) will have its world premiere at the 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) in Estonia. Directed and written by Andrej Volkasin, the film will compete in the First Feature Competition program, with three scheduled screenings during the festival held from November 6 to 22.

The film is a multi-national co-production involving Macedonia (64% stake), Bulgaria (Screening Emotions), and Croatia (Studio Corvus), with support from Eurimages. Produced by Veda Film, the project received 19 million denars from the Macedonian Film Agency in 2020.

Inspired by a novel written by Volkasin about the women in his family, the story follows Dora, a woman whose life is upended when caring for an injured stranger forces her to confront suppressed passions and sexuality. The cast includes Zorica Nusheva, Leo Dolores Popovic, Jana Nikodinovska, Ana Kostovska, and Gorast Cvetkovski.
