Andrew Abdo misnames Jannik Sinner at Australian Open launch

Tennis Australia CEO Andrew Abdo made a verbal error during the launch of the 2027 Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena. While discussing potential player rivalries, Abdo referred to Jannik Sinner as ‘Jacob Sinner’.

Abdo, the former NRL CEO who replaced Craig Tiley in August, later acknowledged the mistake to the media. The slip-up follows previous controversy regarding Abdo’s comments about the potential future of the best-of-five-sets format, which Tennis Australia has since clarified is ‘here to stay’ for the tournament.
