Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami; UK seeks extradition on rape and trafficking charges
U.S. Marshals apprehended social‑media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on a sealed warrant. British Crown Prosecution Service announced 38 additional charges, bringing the total to 59 counts that include rape, sexual assault, human‑trafficking, and offenses involving indecent images of children.
The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, had previously been detained in Romania in 2022 on similar allegations before the Romanian courts lifted travel restrictions last year. After leaving Romania they flew to Florida, where they were taken into federal detention. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, described the new charges as “filth and slander” and suggested the case is politically motivated.
A U.S. district judge will now decide whether the twins meet the criteria for extradition to the United Kingdom, where prosecutors intend to try them. The legal saga spans the United States, the United Kingdom and Romania and remains under active development.
