Andrew Appiah-Danquah Rebukes Former Attorney-General Godfred Dame

Leading United Party member Andrew Appiah‑Danquah said former Attorney‑General and former Minister for Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame should have exercised restraint when commenting on the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, overturning her ten‑year custodial sentence. Appiah‑Danquah argued that lawyers, especially former senior officials, must be guided by the law and not treat political commentary as unrestricted, stating, “When we are lawyers, we are a bit constrained. We can’t do politics just like that.”

He added that Dame’s remarks implied a double standard in justice, saying, “It seems to suggest there are two laws that apply to two sets of people.” Dame maintained that the prosecution’s evidence justified the original conviction, but the appellate ruling cleared Attionu.
