Andrew Coscoran wins 1500m bronze at European Athletics Championships
Andrew Coscoran won the bronze medal in the 1500m at the European Athletics Championships, marking his major championship breakthrough. The 30-year-old Dubliner finished with a time of 3:36.24 after making a decisive move in the final 200 meters.
In a race described as a series of shocks, Stefan Nillessen of the Netherlands took gold with a time of 3:35.70. Sweden’s Samuel Pihlstrom secured second place, finishing just 0.08 seconds ahead of Coscoran. The Irish runner successfully edged out a British trio consisting of Jake Heyward, Arlo Ludewick, and Jake Wightman, who finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.
Coscoran’s bronze is Ireland’s fourth medal of the week at the championships, following gold from Kate O’Connor in the heptathlon and Mark English in the 800m, as well as a silver from Rhasidat Adeleke in the 200m.
