Andrew Garfield stars in historical drama ‘The Uprising’

The historical drama ‘The Uprising’, directed by Paul Greengrass, is set to be released this week. The film dramatizes the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt, a pivotal moment in English history that originated in the Essex village of Fobbing.

Starring Andrew Garfield as a ploughman, the film follows his character as he joins forces with Wat Tyler, played by Cosmo Jarvis, and radical priest John Ball, played by Jamie Bell, to rebel against the establishment. Director Paul Greengrass noted that the period following the Black Death was characterized by a ‘great national convulsion and uprising.’

Garfield expressed that the film serves as a ‘long-distance mirror to our near tomorrow,’ noting his concerns regarding modern societal directions, specifically regarding the hoarding of power and contemporary forms of oppression.
