Andrew Gillum jailed after positive methamphetamine test

Former Tallahassee mayor and 2018 Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum has been booked into the Baldwin County jail in Alabama. The detention follows allegations that he missed a required drug test and subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine during a court appearance on August 6.

Gillum was participating in a court-supervised "color code" drug testing program, a system where participants must call a hotline daily and report for testing when their assigned color is announced. According to Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney John Oxford, Gillum failed to appear for a scheduled screening and later returned a positive test result for methamphetamine in court.

This incident follows a July 2 arrest in Daphne, Alabama, where police reportedly found Gillum in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop. While he was released following that initial arrest, the latest developments may impact his eligibility for pretrial drug intervention programs. Gillum, who narrowly lost the 2018 Democratic primary for Florida governor, is scheduled for his next court appearance on August 13.
