Silverchair members decline pleas to reunite for NRL Grand Final

Members of the Australian rock band Silverchair have issued a joint statement declining public pleas to reunite for the upcoming NRL Grand Final. The request for a performance was spurred by NRL legend Andrew Johns, who called for the group to play to make the match between the Newcastle Knights and the Sydney Roosters the ‘greatest grand final’ ever seen.

In their statement, Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies, and Chris Joannou expressed their shared support for the Newcastle Knights, noting that they ‘actually agree wholeheartedly about something: GO KNIGHTS!!!’. However, they clarified that they will not be taking the stage, stating, ‘We’re way too rusty, so sorry, no can do.’

The band, which has been on an indefinite hiatus since 2011, noted they will be supporting the team in spirit. While a reunion remains off the table, the members indicated they would be supporting the community and the team loudly from the sidelines.
