Andrew Kools faces allegations regarding undercover police past

Andrew Kools, a former undercover officer for the Metropolitan Police’s Special Demonstration Squad (SDS), is facing allegations of deception involving an animal rights activist. The activist, identified by the pseudonym Jessica, claims Kools deceived her into a sexual relationship.

Kools, 66, served in the SDS between 1990 and 1995, an era where officers infiltrated political and protest groups. An investigation by the Undercover Policing Inquiry (UCPI) has scrutinized his activities. Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, stated that the force is aware of the sexual relationship and expressed disappointment that Kools did not disclose the truth during the investigation. Kools is also accused of advising colleagues to engage in similar relationships.

Kools categorically denies the allegations, describing them as “revenge, plain and simple.” In an interview with the BBC, he discussed the nature of undercover work, noting that he occasionally had to break the law—such as using cannabis or committing minor property damage—to maintain his cover and gain trust. Kools is currently active in a local branch of the Conservative Party.
