Andrew Nkea appointed to Vatican Dicastery for Evangelization

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuanya, the Archbishop of Bamenda, as a member of the Dicastery for Evangelization. Specifically, he will serve within the section for first evangelization and new particular churches.

This appointment provides the Cameroonian Church with a consultative voice within the Roman Curia, one of the Holy See’s most significant departments, which oversees global missionary activities. While the appointment is a major recognition for the region, it has been clarified that Mgr Nkea has not been named a cardinal, despite widespread rumors circulating on social media.

Mgr Nkea continues to serve as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda and as the president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Cameroon (CENC).
