Andrew Scott could achieve historic dual Oscar nominations

Irish actor Andrew Scott is a leading contender to achieve a historic feat at the 2027 Oscars. Due to a rule change by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an actor can now receive multiple nominations in the same category if their performances are among the most voted.

Scott is currently being cited by critics for potential Best Actor nominations for his roles in ‘Pressure’ and ‘Elsinore’. In ‘Pressure’, he portrays Scottish meteorologist James Stagg, a key figure in determining the D-Day landing date during World War II. In ‘Elsinore’, he plays Ian Charleson, the actor who portrayed Hamlet in his final months.

If successful, Scott would be the first actor to compete against himself in the same category since 1930, when George Arliss achieved the feat for ‘Disraeli’ and ‘The Green Goddess’.
