Elsinore film starring Andrew Scott explores life of Ian Charleson

The biographical drama Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman, follows the final years of Scottish actor Ian Charleson. The film depicts Charleson’s determination to perform the role of Hamlet at the National Theatre in London in 1989 while battling complications from AIDS.

Directed by Simon Stone from a script by Stephen Beresford, the production has garnered significant attention at film festivals. Critics have highlighted Scott’s performance as a central strength of the film. The cast includes Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, and Joe Locke.

Focus Features is scheduled to release the film in select U.S. theaters on November 20, with a wider release through December 2026. In other markets, such as Brazil, the film is slated for a January 2027 release.
