Andrew Sears to make MLB debut with Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers manager A. J. Hinch announced that left-handed pitching prospect Andrew Sears will have his contract selected for a Major League Baseball debut. Sears is expected to serve as a bulk reliever in a bullpen game against the Kansas City Royals.

The 23-year-old Sears, a 10th-round pick in the 2023 draft, has risen quickly through the Tigers' farm system. Following a successful stint at Double-A Erie, he was promoted to Triple-A Toledo, where he recorded 9.2 scoreless innings across two appearances. Analysts have noted his mid-90s fastball and sharp slider as key components of his repertoire.

Because the Tigers' 40-man roster is currently full, a corresponding roster move will be required to facilitate the promotion. Sears' rapid ascent follows a season that included overcoming a bone spur fracture in his throwing elbow.
