Andrew Tulloch leaves Meta for AI rival Anthropic

Engineer Andrew Tulloch has left Meta to join AI developer Anthropic. Tulloch, a former pivotal engineer on the PyTorch open-source framework, reportedly held a compensation package at Meta valued at $US1.5 billion ($2.1 billion) over six years. While a Meta spokesperson described these figures as “inaccurate and ridiculous,” the move follows Tulloch’s tenure at Meta and his role as co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab.

Tulloch’s departure occurred shortly after Meta released its new AI agent, Muse. The news of his exit coincided with a slip in Meta’s share price.
