Andrey Klepach removed from VEB. RF chief economist role
Andrey Klepach, the chief economist at Russia’s state development bank VEB. RF, has been removed from his position. His dismissal follows a speech delivered in May at the Nikitsky Club, which was only recently made public.
In his address, Klepach warned that Russia is losing the global technological and economic competition to the United States, China, and even Ukraine, citing the latter's sustained Western financial support. He cautioned that Russia would not win the current war of attrition and predicted that mounting economic costs and rising inequality could trigger an unexpected social crisis. Klepach even drew historical parallels between current economic pressures and the 1917 February Revolution.
VEB. RF confirmed Klepach is no longer in the role and stated that a successor has already been selected. While the bank did not provide an official reason for his departure, reports suggest the dismissal was linked to his critical assessments of Russia's economic and political trajectory.
