Andriana Škunca, Croatian Poet, Dies at 83

Renowned Croatian poet, photographer and literary critic Andriana Škunca died in 2026 at the age of 83. Born on 9 March 1944 in Bjelovar, she grew up in Novalja on the island of Pag, a setting that shaped much of her work.

Škunca published her first poetry collection, *Do neba bijelo*, in 1969 and went on to release several notable volumes, including *Kratka sjena podneva* (1973) and *Pomaci tišine* (1981). She co‑edited the anthology *Naša ljubavnica tlapnja* (1992) with Z. Mrkonjić and H. Pejaković. Her contributions earned her major honours such as the Goranov vijenac award for her complete poetic opus in 2006 and the Vladimir Nazor award for lifetime achievement in 2019. The City of Novalja issued a public condolence, highlighting her lasting impact on the cultural identity of Novalja and Pag.
