Andrija Bajić’s death fuels inheritance dispute and funeral plans

Serbian folk singer Andrija Bajić died on 7 July at the age of 89 while being treated at the Military Medical Academy. His partner, known as Mala Cana (Svetlana Tomić), has spoken publicly about his estate.

Cana said Bajić had arranged a "maintenance contract" before his death: the family home in Belgrade was to go to his daughters, while a weekend house in Devojački bunar was covered by a lifelong support agreement with her. She claims the daughters are attempting to overturn that contract.

Cana also reported that she has left the marital home, is staying with a relative, and feels physically unwell. She does not know when or where the burial will take place, though some groups have urged that he be interred in the Avenue of Deserving Citizens.

Physical confrontations between Cana and Bajić’s daughters have been alleged, and the couple’s last public appearance together was captured in a photograph three weeks before his death.
