Nikola Kalinić retires from basketball to join Crvena zvezda coaching staff
Serbian basketball player Nikola Kalinić has announced his retirement from professional play at the age of 34. He will remain with Crvena zvezda, transitioning into a new role as an assistant coach under Ibon Navarro.
Kalinić cited personal reasons for the decision, stating a desire to be closer to Belgrade. His career includes significant achievements such as winning the EuroLeague with Fenerbahçe, the ACB league with Barcelona, and multiple ABA League titles with Crvena zvezda.
Following his retirement, Kalinić plans to spend the next two years completing his coaching training while serving on the technical staff. Team captain Ognjen Dobrić commented on the club's recent turbulent season and the tactical challenges faced by the squad, noting the importance of the team's roster transitions.
