Andrija Mandić retains support from Europe Now Movement
The Europe Now Movement (PES) continues to support Andrija Mandić in his role as Speaker of the Parliament, despite significant ideological differences and political friction. Analysts suggest that the desire to maintain the current governing coalition outweighs political or ideological disagreements, effectively removing any 'red line' that would prompt PES to vote for Mandić's removal.
The tension stems from Mandić's recent actions, including condolences offered following the death of Ratko Mladić, which led the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) to announce an initiative to dismiss him. While the DPS argues that Mandić has crossed an unacceptable line, PES has indicated it will not support the dismissal, citing a need to avoid political damage that would result from forming a different government.
To remove Mandić, a simple majority of present MPs is required, provided a quorum of at least 41 members is met. While some individual lawmakers have expressed intent to vote for his dismissal, the core coalition remains intact to ensure political survival.
