Andriolu animal shelter faces potential closure in Porto Torres

The Andriolu municipal dog shelter in Porto Torres is facing a possible closure due to the alleged lack of a suitable exercise area. According to the local section of LNDC Animal Protection, this decision could result in the transfer of approximately 47 of the 72 dogs currently housed there to a facility in Lanusei, while the remaining animals might be moved to the private Altanurra shelter.

LNDC President Sebastiano Candidda has formally requested clarification from the relevant stray animal services and the Municipality regarding the existence of any such measure, its motivations, and the proposed timeline. Animal welfare advocates expressed concern that transferring the animals, many of whom are elderly, could cause significant stress and disrupt established care routines and socialization efforts.
