Andris Kulbergs aims to reduce ministries following election victory
Andris Kulbergs, leader of the winning 'Apvienotā saraksta' (AS) party in the Saeima elections, has outlined his vision for a potential new government in Latvia. Following the party's decisive victory with 35.3% of the vote, Kulbergs expressed intentions to reduce the number of ministries while simultaneously focusing on achieving economic growth.
Kulbergs stated that while cost-cutting measures like reducing the number of ministries are necessary, they must be analyzed through an economic lens to ensure they support national growth. He emphasized that expenditure cuts should not occur without a concurrent economic breakthrough.
Regarding coalition building, Kulbergs noted that AS is open to discussions with all parties, provided they are willing to commit to necessary changes. However, he explicitly stated that AS will not enter a coalition with the 'Latvija pirmajā vietā' (LPV) party. If reappointed as Prime Minister, Kulbergs indicated that AS would seek to retain the Finance Minister portfolio.
