Andris Kulbergs demands explanation over bridge funding

Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has requested an immediate explanation from the Ministry of Education and Science regarding the distribution of 225,000 euros in state funding intended for international sporting events.

Specifically, Kulbergs is questioning the allocation of 147,366 euros to the Latvian Bridge Federation. The Prime Minister noted that the two supported bridge championships—the 57th European National Team Bridge Championship and the 30th RTU European Youth Bridge Championship—had already concluded by July 15, whereas the funding competition was not announced until July 22.

The Latvian Bridge Federation received over 65% of the total funds distributed in the competition, while the remaining six supported sporting events shared approximately 77,633 euros. Kulbergs is seeking legal justification for providing funds to events that had already taken place and has also requested clarification regarding 14,000 euros earmarked for evaluating competition results and developing new criteria.
