Andris Kulbergs prepares to begin government formation talks in Latvia

Prime Minister-designate Andris Kulbergs of the United List (AS) is set to meet with the 41 newly elected AS deputies on October 26 to discuss a proposed reform plan and the government formation process. Kulbergs emphasized the importance of securing support and engagement from his own political alliance before initiating official negotiations with other parties.

Following the internal meeting, Kulbergs plans to engage with potential coalition partners. Scheduled discussions for October 28 include the National Alliance (NA) and New Unity (JV). The formation process will focus on establishing cooperation principles, decision-making procedures, dispute resolution mechanisms, and accountability for results.

The proposed reform plan includes potential changes to government operations and ministerial structures, strengthening fiscal discipline, reducing bureaucracy and state expenditures, and promoting economic growth. While various models are being considered, including a minority government, Kulbergs noted that some proposals will require legislative amendments and parliamentary support.
