Android 17 beta adds native app lock and nine new features

Google’s Android 17 stable release lacked the long‑awaited native app‑lock feature. In the latest QPR1 beta 6 the code shows a reworked implementation that lets users lock multiple apps from a single setting and disables PIN fallback, requiring biometric unlock only.

The same beta also brings nine improvements, including calorie and distance tracking in Health Connect, a refreshed design for the Pixel Watch settings UI, an updated wallpaper picker, plus a series of bug fixes such as spell‑check language selection, volume‑control responsiveness, and graphical glitches.
